The Green Terrace Garden
The Green Terrace Garden
Our clients envisioned a large terrace for entertaining and dining that would complement the stylish new addition at the rear of their property. We aimed to create a space that was both strong in presence and character, yet simple and elegant. Characteristic multi-stem trees were used to define the terrace, provide shelter and enclosure, and introduce a bold architectural element. Their twisted stems create a striking contrast against the crisp lines of the industrial-style, large-format concrete tiles. A long feature hardwood slatted step links the garden to the interior of the property, offering a soft, natural transition while serving as a sculptural focal point in its own right.
Part of our brief for the remainder of the garden was to create a predominantly green garden, rich in texture and calming in character. We achieved this with large borders and a combination of multi-layered grasses, foliage plants and architectural topiary statements all focussing on the green planting scheme. These large, flowing borders, set against the crisp formal lawn, continue the theme of contrast and juxtaposition.
